Hi Everyone,

Firstly, congrats on an excellent forum.

A very quick question.

The company I work for, we write some related articles that I think are useful to others.

We publish them on our own website, but should I publish them on Article Websites as well?

Would we suffer from duplicate content etc? Is it a bad thing if I were to submit our articles to these sites?

Some people I ask say no, it will hit you, some people I ask say yes as although PR might drop, traffic from these articles could be worthwhile.

Any ideas the most accurate answer?

If I can go to more than one functioning URL and see the same content then you have duplicate content and yes you will take a hit for it.

The concept of giving away content in exchange for a link and or mention with/link is a good one IMHO. But change the content to be significantly different from what's on your website. Create an abstract format and then use a link back to your main article.

As far as I know, if your duplicated posts link back to the original page you posted the article at, you should not be penalized. Think about RSS...

Some SEO articles suggest that there is no suck thing as duplicate content penalty. According to them when you think you are being penalized for duplicate content is nothing but the way top search engines treat your site for using the content another higher ranked site is providing. For example if you have a low ranked site with original content which you later post on a higher ranked site, the lower ranked site with the original content will not be ranked (or even shown on the SERPs) because the way search engines are filtering the results. They show the higher ranked ones first and ignore all others with the same content. It's only a theory, but I think it makes sense...
