Problem with FTP

downloading from server fine, uploading very problematic

Over the last couple of days have had problems with FTPing to a dedicated machine. I can download no problem, but when I upload I have massive time-out problems, and it can take forever to upload even the smallest file.

It doesn't seem to be a problem at my end as I can FTP to other servers no problem.

I've restarted FTP and restarted the entire server in question but nothing has changed.

I figure it's either a network issue between me and the server in question, or a problem on the actual server, but I've no idea where to start looking to find the problem.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

my set-up is:
FTPd is Pure-FTP
WHM 11.2.0 cPanel 11.11.0-S16999
CENTOS Enterprise 3.9 i686 - WHM X v3.1.0

Are you using active or passive mode for the data transfer?

Normally I use passive, but since this problem started, I've tried both, but the problem continues.
