Hi:

Sometimes I am not the smartest knife in the shed! Just want to make sure I am installing the right FreeBSD.

I am putting this on an Intel Xeon 4 Core 5000 series. This is a 64 bit processor. I look at the list of all the flavors of FreeBSD, and I know I do not want some of them (alpha, amd64 for instance)...

Do I want the i386 install... or what is the ia64?

Thanks!

Dave

Surprisingly, you want AMD64. Alternately, you can use i386, but why not take advantage of your 64-bit processor?

The AMD64 architecture is the rare case where Intel copied AMD, rather than the other way around.

IA64 = Itanium.
