i'm just about to populate my new website with some content. I've been round and round the various forums here and have learned some very valuable lessons from this site.

I am confused as to the best way to move forweard now though and would appreciate a little guidance or suggestion please.

When creating dir structure for the site, what is the max (or optimum) number of sub-dirs to drill down into?

i can use as an example
eg.
world/asia/thailand/phuket/boats
world/asia/thailand/phuket/diving

world/asia/thailand-diving/phuket
world/asia/thailand-boats/phuket

I'm not sure of the best stategy here. Would it be better to use the first method or the second? Oh there is so much to take into consideration that my head is spinning. Maybe I am being overly paranoid about matters which will nto affect my PR. I'm not sure.

it best to name directories using keywords? is there a max amount of hyphens that i should use (if any) for SEO purposes.

Is there a max number of characters that I should limit myself to using for naming directories and files? I have been told that 30 is a good amount. However if all my dirs and files are long filenames will this be okay?

I found some answers / opinions opn number of levels to use already. Brett you are awesome. His thread suggests to not go too deep because SE's like things close to root.

Its important to not confuse dir structure with link structure. Drill down to me implies link or navigation structure, like how many clicks
world/asia/thailand/phuket/diving is away from home page. The link structure may or may not follow the dir structure.

Considering only the dir structure, go for a reasonable number of keywords and minimal number of noise words, "world" is probably a noise word unless you cover "mars" etc. All your examples seem Ok to me, perhaps it should be "boating" to match "diving".
