Starting a new site.

is it good to run more than 1? how do you go about starting?

Well, I'm at the stage where I have one large site that is working well and needs little attention. I'm thinking about starting a new site.

But when I do research, I see that there are already simmilar sites out there. The only reason I started my site was for fun. I liked the topic and wrote on it. Now, yes it's a business, but I still enjoy it.

What's the best strategy for starting a new site? I'd like people's insights/experiences.
Just start something you like and hope it will work, or do research on what you think will be successful and go with that?

Is it difficult to manage several sites at once? I can see being in expert in one topic, but as you get more and more it must be harder.

Sometimes ideas for new sites pop into my head, and I sort of file them away. Then when I have some time, I think back on these ideas and pick the best one to start working on. Sometimes they never get completed, other times they do. But after you start getting to a certain number of sites, it is true, some will get neglected as you put more energy into the newer ones. That might not matter, if the neglected ones are ever-green.

The good thing is, if you have several sites going, starting a new one is a lot easier than starting from scratch. You can advertise your new site on your older ones to get instant traffic. That's what I've always done, and find it very easy to get a new site off the ground without spending a dime in advertising.

My advice is to go with the subject that you enjoy. Write about it, study the stats and see if it's a good earner or not. But always start with something that interests you. The stats will then show that maybe you can diversify a bit to make more money but still within your interest area. So do what you enjoy but keep an eye out for specific areas that can make it profitable.
