Starting a blog: where to begin?

So after about ten years of procrastinating I have decided to start a website. I would like the site to centered around a blog, but also have a few other tabs for some other pages. I would like to host the site at a domain that I own rather than at blogspot, blogger or anything like that.

I have bought the domain(s) that I want to use from GoDaddy... now what is my next step?

Since I have no website designing experience, I will be looking for some sort of website/blog template software (wordpress?). Also, I need to get hosting as well - I really know nothing about this type of stuff. Anything else that I should be considering?

Thanks for any help!

- Chris

A lot of people have suggested WordPress but there are also other companies who can set up an entire blog for you, including hosting if needed.

As for the site itself, look up templates, some are in HTML, DHTML, XML, PHP, CSS, Ajax, Java, and so on. A great way to learn them is to get a template then play with the code and see what your edits do in a preview. (You can use Notepad to edit the codes).

Thanks for the reply!

I think I will try playing around with some templates. For now, I just put a blog up at wordpress and I am going to play around with it there, then eventually move all the content to my dommain.
