I have seen a site [mobilelocators.com...] that can track the location of a mobile via its gsm signal. Does anyone know how that is done and if it works. Is that something anyweb site can do if set up with the right links etc?

Neat site, thanks for sharing.

I would think its done in a similar manner that the carrier tower and phone check in with each other so that the carrier knows how to route the call. The carrier knows which tower your phone is checking in with so there should be a reliable distance from that tower that you could be within.
