Sorry for the long list but those are the features they offer with the shared hosting plan. Some of the things which I questioned them about was having root access which they said they didn't provide. Also asked them the versions of php mysql and apache they have they seem to be up to date. I wouldn't mind going for a VPS to gain root access but they all seem to have a very small amount of hard disk space.

Any advice, comments or alternative hosts welcome.

Do not take them up on the "free for life" domain offer.

That is almost certainly only for as long as you host with them. And then try getting your domain back when you leave.

The Domains forum here gets some sad stories...

Register your domain(s) yourself at a major registrar.

All this on a shared hosting plan? LOL!

If just ten of the 200 web sites on the same server started making real use of those facilities the whole server and network would grind to a halt. Either they don't know that, or they are conning you.

Decide what you need from your server, and then seek a host offering that. A dedicated server is always preferable if you have real traffic. But the most important thins is reliability.

This means 24/7 telephone support to have the server hard-rebooted for example.

That is what I have done and thats why I have found these guys. This is my first website launch and I think that this would be suitable for me until I need better facilities. I mean I wouldn't mind going dedicated but I think thats like diving in the deep end when I don't know how to swim. Also VPS offer minimal disk space and I am sure I will need at least 50gb disk space to start with. You can sticky me recommendations.

Cheers

Matt what parts of the features do not seem realistic to you and why?

I always recommend that you do the following search before buying ANYTHING online:

<company name> scam

I'd also carefully read the company's Terms of Service. Look for service-level guarantees. Are there any? Or multiple disclaimers suggesting that you'll never be able to reach anywhere near the limits of your plan, due to "resource constraints"?

Most of these TOSs simply say this, when you get down to it: we are going to put you on a server with hundreds of other sites. We aren't going to limit you in any significant way. You are going to fight it out with those hundreds of sites. Good luck!

There's a reason why VPSs cost more, and particularly why there are incremental costs associated with disk space, bandwidth, etc.: they generally offer service-level guarantees.

I concur that this plan sounds unrealistic.

I think I found the host you are talking about (your cut-and-paste gave enough information to search for them - I suppose a WebmasterWorld no-no...) and I see for a bit more money they offer "unlimited" disk space.

Does that seem reasonable to you? Can anybody offer unlimited disk space? Should NASA, the DOD, the IRS, and Jet Propulsion Laboratories switch?

Unfortunately, this is typical of many shared-hosting plans.

All the alligator meat you can eat. You see, they throw you in the swamp...

SUPPORT

First Test their support systems,

Try Phone: how long to answer ..do they answer!

Email and Support Tickets : If you can register for a support ticket..same thing how long before they respond

Noting else matters if they cant or dont respond when you need them most ...when your site is down

Thankyou very much guys for your advice it is much appreciated. I would appreciate if you guys could also sticky me some vps hosts or plans you would recommend. I totally understand the point that you guys make and find that what is on offer dosn't seem realistic or reflect the price.

Any recommendations welcome by stickymail jtara and dauction.
