Seems as though someone has figured out how to send comments to my Hi5 profile, masquerading as one of my real friends. And, some of my friends have received Hi5 spam, apparently from me.

I haven't looked at my Hi5 account in years, so I was suspicious when these messages began to appear in my Inbox. So far I've received 2.

It began with an email alert from Hi5, with the subject line:

<my friend's name> has given you a Profile Comment

the body of the email:

Hey, I know I haven't talked to you in a while but,
I got a new profile Check it out.
<spammer's link here>

Another variation:

Hey, New Profile Hun Check it out!
<spammer's link here>

I first thought it weird that my buddy Lynque (WebmasterWorld member name) would call me "hun".

the spammer's link goes to a porn site (some kind of dating site featuring graphic nudity)

I think the fat lady has sung for Hi5. They jumped the shark years ago. A few years ago a bunch of my friends signed up, so I did too (I'm always game to try a new Web2.0 app). Shortly after, the activity there dwindled to nothing, and I forgot all about it until now.

For what it's worth, I've canceled my Hi5 account, and this worm or hack or whatever it is will likely send many more packing.

Goodbye Hi5. I hope your domain is worth something in the aftermarket.

Same thing here. Never even bothered clicking the link though. Didn't know it was a worm or whatever, just didn't care about hi5 at all.

I'd never really used the site to be honest so it doesn't really matter to me. Some friends of mine still use it quite a lot though.

Ah well, another one bites the dust.

I jumped ship when they asked me for my e-mail name & login during the sign-up process.
