I could hardly believe it - the .com became available for my web design company name and I picked it up, for a pittance... $650.

Now what to do with it?

5 Years promotion, and several hundred BL's to the .net domain. For now, it is parked on the .net

Your thoughts and experiences appreciated.

> Your thoughts

  • Do nothing, keep it parked.
  • Offload less "important" content from .net to .com.
  • A company blog.
  • A portfolio showcase, success stories.
  • A support system, knowledge base or FAQ section.
  • A forum or wiki.
  • Hosting? Current server status.
  • MFA! ;)

    BTW, good score!

But don't duplicate folder names, in case you later want an easy 301 from one site to the other.

Monitor both sites' serps; if and when the .com starts to perform well, consider moving all to the .com by 301

But make the judgment on purely commercial grounds - you do risk dropping, at least for a while, if you move. You don't have to move.

There is no doubt that a .com has advantages over a .net - but that's on the basis of new 'straight out of the box' sites. Once a site is established, even a .info is more valuable than staring over, in 99% of cases.

keep getting links to the .net - the .net will always be stronger for SEO purposes however you can 301 the .com to point to the .net and use the .com on your business cards, email etc.

congratulations by the way - always nice to hear!
