How to make embedded youtube video load faster

I have a site that shows embedded youtube videos. However, those video seems to take forever to load(3~5 min). In addition, when it's loading, it just display a blank area and is hard to know if its loading at all.

Is there anyway to make embedded youtube video load faster or have some kind of indicator that it's loading?

If you're embedding the player then you're at the mercy of whatever 3rd party system you're using and your own bandwidth. If you hoisted the files on your own server then you'd have more control over speeds.
