Hi, I am an owner and web master of a small web site. For years I use "starter" plan of a company which charges $10/month for:

"Linux or Windows 2003 Hosting - 350MB Web Hosting Space - 5 GB Website Data Transfer - mySQL and MS ACCESS database - ColdFusion MX, .NET,  & PHP Enabled - Web Based Email, Spam Filters - Urchin Advanced Live Statistics - 24/7 Free Technical Support"

I do not observe frequently hosting market, and suddenly I found, that elsewhere I can get hundreds times more of the disc space and traffic for the money. Are my worries correct? Where I may find any evaluations of my hosting company?
Please advise...

there are lots of other things to look out for as well though. some hosts attract you with promises of a lot of space, but might only give you one MySQL table. or they might not allow the use of an .htaccess file. or their downtime might not be as good.
having lots of disk space is only really important if you actually need it.
having more throughput is always good though.

Are you happy with them? If so, why rock the boat? Before getting our own, I paid $20 a month for 200M disk space. Yes I could get it cheaper but I was happy with their services and support.

Downtime was next to nothing and the company was fantastic. During the summer months, you will sometimes find more hosting companies starting because kids are out of school

5GB Transfer for $10 per month?
Look for another hosting provider!

when we got a quote for our dedicated server, it had mentioned as SQL 2005 but when i enquired in detail, the marketing manager told me it was only a express edition and i have to go for sql 2000 std edition

And this data transfer itself is a easy way to confuse people

Hello,

IMHO, the most important aspects of a Hosting company are:

1) Uptime, and
2) Support accessibility

Without those, the storage space and bandwidth are useless. If your hosting company has excellent reliability and you can contact a knowledgeable person who can assist you when you need it, then you have a good resource and should keep it. If you need more storage space or bandwidth, they would probably be happy to provide it to you at a competetive rate and you could rest assured that your site is up and you can get help when you need it - something that would take a while to discover with a new Hosting provider.

Just my 2 cents. ;)
