Hi All,

Have been looking at traffic to one of my sites for the month (an online computer product store). Noticed a significant drop in traffic between the first week (3/2 - 3/8) and the second week (3/9 - 3/15). My Google hits were down over 30%. Oddly, the site PR remains the same as it has been for months and the number of pages indexed by Google actually increased between the first and second weeks of the month.

Curious how others are doing traffic wise.

We are slightly up from last month - however we are only targeting business 2 business and no consumers. Would safely say on the consumer side that war and Spring Break has a major play on things.. :)

Our traffic is a little down, around 5% since hostilities commenced and there was a 30% decrease in revenue. Also noticing fewer subscriptions to free newsletters etc over the last 24 hours.

The people are out there, but it's like they are in a bit of a daze - just going through the motions while they absorb what's going on.. just my opinion.

My hits/visitors are down, but conversion rate is up. Seeing as I do a lot of PPC, this is very good for me. Getting similar sales, but with more qualified traffic my costs are down. :)

Down about 10-15% for a Thursday. My traffic follows a fairly predictable weekly cycle as many other do.

Totally agree here, site usage down yesterday by around 20% and one of the usually active email lists I'm on has had no posts for 2 days now. Usually around 10 a day.

Yup - one of my sites (not a big one) generates maybe three or four enquiries a day, and dropped to 0 yesterday and today.

Fortunately, it's not a major part of my business, but it's quite interesting.

My "war widgets" searches went up about 700% in the past couple of days.

Other than that, traffic has been about the same.

I think I just got a freshbot jump yeasterday that kicked me back above normal, but I noticed that in the last few days I've been getting hits on terms that might be used by people looking for survival gear.

There are some very, um, interesting search phrases people are using to find my site.

People are watching to war...not surfing online...

We've been hit badly in terms of conversions the last 2 days. Most of the visitors are still there, but converting isn't on their minds. Stopping by before they get another web news fix is what they're thinking about.

Hopefully it'll turn around next week. I'm guessing the weekend will be ugly for conversions too.

My hits are up nicely as are my unique visitors since this last update.
But, it has been going up every month since I opened 7 months ago.

I attribute this to work done to date on optimizing my site, word of mouth and some great links; folks are becoming aware that I exist :)

Our 3 tourism related sites are all down about 30% in the last 2 days. I'm sure it will turn around next week when the bombing stops. You gotta admit it's pretty compelling TV.

Travel site, traffic is down slightly but conversions and inquiries have dropped to almost nothing. The world holds its breath.

My international travel site's traffic is down 15-20% since the invasion began, but affiliate bookings are holding up surprisingly well. Bookings are up sharply for one of my partners, probably because my readers are assuming the war will be over by the time they travel.

I can understand why traffic is down: I've spent a lot of time looking at Google News and my favorite newspaper sites when I should have been working.

I have a War Forum site and it is going up,up & up.
Wont be the case when it ends unless political discussions feed my members.

Same here. My site is not specifically war-related, but we are near the top on a lot of war-related Google searches, and the hit rate has gone mad, largely as a result of people coming through that route.

People aren't giving up surfing, they're reponding to the current situation by surfing differently.

I have a terrorist news site that has been slowing down alot since 9-11... last week I added a page for Iraqi Freedom, and 2 days later, have been getting more than 2,000 uniques per day! (80% GOOGLE/Yahoo/AOL).

I love it when a plan comes together!
(and love Google's prompt response)

I use Yahoo's top 20 to determine the hot stories to look out for. Right now the top word is 'Iraq'....

[buzz.yahoo.com...]

There's some hot keyword combinations in there! (but 'shhh' don't tell anyone)...

I have a support community site and forum - getting about 1.5m hits a month for the site alone - and have seen no such decrease - its not rising at the same pace as before - but certainly not dropping...

Harley

p.s - its no suprise to hear travel sites are losing hits - im afraid its a case of get used to it...theres more to come...
