We have some content providers in Latin America who sometimes embed Youtube videos. Every once in a while, when I try to play one, I get the "The uploader has not made this video available in your country" message. So then we either have to tell the writer to find a different one (which still may or may not work), or we have to spend the time to find a video ourselves (which kind of defeats the purpose of outsourcing work).

I have no problem with people not wanting their videos to be displayed in certain countries or possibly doing it because of local restrictions. But it would be nice to know ahead of time if a video will display in certain countries. Other than trial and error, is there some way to determine this?

You can use the Youtube API to get information about a given video.

This is what these sites are doing :

[polsy.org.uk...]

[unblockvideos.com...]
