Got videos, need to enter metadata. Got the list of metadata types I can enter:

> Title
> Subject
> Category
> Date
> Format
> Resource Identifier
> Language
> Source
> Resource Type
> Coverage
> Relation
> Keywords
> Description
> Creator
> Contributor
> Publisher
> E-mail
> Homepage
> Rights management
> Additional info
> Block for itunes podcast category - yes/no
> contains explicit material - clean/yes/no
> i-tunes category:

But don't know what can be entered e.g. what categories are their to choose from? What would additional info be? What is coverage? What labels should be used for format?

A good tutorial would be great. Search engines aren't returning the best results on this particular search of mine.

Are you talking about any specific service like youtube or are you speaking generally?

To wake this thread up - I have a bunch of FLV's into which I'd like to insert metadata, primarily for VSEO. Copies of these videos will be submitted to YouTube and the like, plus a copy of each will be hosted on my website. I'm thinking Title, Keywords and Description will pretty much get the job done. Anything else important?

What about suggestions for metedata insertion tools? Any favorites?

Well, I also brought my first video to the web the week before christmas. As far as I found out, the ability to insert metadata depends on the player you use.

I used a javascript based player and my title and description tags are already well indexed. But this could also be due to the video-xml-sitemap, which I submitted to webmaster central. Don't know.

I did NOT submit my video to youtube, because it was my first one. Will do so later on with some selected videos, but I want the majority of my material to be available solely on my own website. (Which - so my speculation - is a positive ranking factor, btw!)

It could also be the case that adobe's professional software offers means to insert such metadata right into the flv-file; but I cannot tell about this. The freely available conversion-tools, which I found and used, do not.

Flash is a traditionally "weird" research field for SEOs, eh? Too much to learn about it still, few information over the web, but a great chance just because of this...

inserting captions through transcripts into your video will also allow its content to be spidered: [webmasterworld.com...]
