Forum Moderators: open
Since the only topic I have found on this site that treats keyword prominence calculations has been closed for discussion, I decided to start a new one, therefore I apologize if such topic does exist somewhere.
The problem is:
Various SEO tools use different approaches to keyword prominence calculations in a phrase. It is generally assumed that the keyword in the initial position in an element takes 100% prominence, while the last one - 0%. Things get more complicated when it comes to multi-word phrases, where the keyword occurs more than once. For example, if we have a phrase, say:
webmaster world - a forum for a webmaster
Some tools will take the average 50% for the keyword "webmaster" (like WebPosition), whereas other tools will say the prominence is 100% (like Page Promoter) - the latter assuming that if the word is in the initial position at least once, there is no need to count all the other occurrences.
So, which approach is more legitimate?
This is rather theoretical question, but I do need you ideas or at least recommendations on further reading on the topic.
