I write a new article on one of my tech sites daily and then also submit that same content to a couple of ezine article submission sites.

I find that more and more people are using my articles on their own pages and that's cool because there's a link back to my own site.

What type of penalities could I get with duplicate articles being out there with SE results?

Should I wait a few days/weeks before I share the content so my site gets indexed with the original articles first?

A common precaution is to wait till the search engines spider the content on your site. You could also only submit half of the article. At the end of the article you can add a teaser to visit your site for more information.

A general problem with duplicate content issues is that the issues are always evolving. So what may go under the radar today might get you flagged tomorrow. Be careful and always try to play it safe.

I suggest you write different articles to submit to the other sites, and take pains to make sure that your own content stays very unique.

You can't always control whether your page will be seen as the original or not, date of spidering notwithstanding. Generally, if pages are seen as sufficiently similar to be considered "duplicates," the page with the highest PageRank wins, and the others can be arbitrarily dropped from Google.

Sometimes, if there are sufficient good quality inbounds to a page, it will stay in the index even though it is duplicated... but, again, you have no control over this. I have seen several copies of syndicated articles ranking on the same searches. I've also seen copies of articles completely vanish.

<speculation>I think too much dupe content on a site may also raise flags on various engines and could hurt you overall.</speculation>
