Adding 2 Words to Title

Is this that risky?

Hi

If a site is ranked in the top three on a keyword
and if I change the title ( by adding two keywords)
is this really going to effect anything?

The site is listed in DMOZ twice so I wonder
if now that the title doesn't match the DMOZ title if
Google will penalize the site?

The two words I am adding do not contain the keyword
I rank on. So it seems like an insignificant change.

Although this is decreasing the keyword density of your title (for your ranking phrase), if you append the keywords, i can't see it making a difference.

With regards to changing the title, I do it whenever it's called for. The page title is what I want people to see and understand at a glance. Change it as you see fit, keeping it clear and succinct. Keyword order may play a role in the ranking, especially for exact searches. Frequent changes are probably not good for most pages.

With regards to the DMOZ listing and Google penalties, why worry? My index title has not matched DMOZ in years. And if I only could get 2 listings... it all has nothing to do with Google. Familiarize yourself with Google Information for Webmasters [google.com] and try to get more rest at night :)
