Does anyone know of any papers/articles/threads/info that discuss how your SERP (and even more to the point your exact position in the top 20 resuts, position 1 thru 20) converts to # of visitors in a percentage basis?
For example. I have a search term that occurs 10,000 times per month as reported by overture (And is google roughly 10x overture by most peoples estimates?).
If I am the 20th result for this, what % of those 10,000 searches would I get?
If I am the 10th results for this, what %?
and so on to
If I am the 1st result for this, what %?
I realize this isn't an exact science but if anyone knows of research results in this area it would be a HUGE HELP to me.
Thanks!
Glenn
Of course, there is no completely correct answer. It will vary for different search terms, how competitive they are, how much junk/spam is high in the SERPs and how enticing your title and blurb are versus other sites. Others will likely disagree mightily, and are invited to do so.
20th: 1% (if lucky)
10th: 9%
1st: 70% or more.
Your mileage may vary.
It's thrue that the visitor pays his attention primarily on the first positins in the SERP.
However,I can have ranked in #1 position a bad site that doesn't produce any conversion even if visited thousand times per day and ,on the contrary, just have a #6 position ranked well made site that allows to me the best gain!
Let me say that personally I received conversion even from the third page of the SERP (24th position)...
