I was able to secure: com, net and org for a new domain name

It’s been discussed many times is this forum over the years, but what is the
current thinking about SE ranking. Any weight given to one extension over the other?

What is the safest way to point two of them to the one we select as the master
site to avoid incurring any penalty? Only one will have any content

The site will have about 10K of static HTML pages.

Planning on running all three as VPS with a single IP address
running Red Hat Linux OS w/Apache Web Server

Well, if it's an organisation go with .org, if it's commercial .com, etc. :)

Then just 301 redirect the other two to it from .htaccess (there's loads on it in the Apache forum). AFAIK 301s are a recognised (and non-penalised) means of redirect, but I'd check it with someone whose knowledge is more up to the minute.

Good luck!

I believe long ago there was some theory that the .com seemed to gain some favor, but if I remember correctly, the supposed favor was so minute that it didn't seem to matter. If the site is commercial, I would go .com and then redirect the others as suggested above.

If for no other reason, people know .com more than everything else.

unless you are a non-profit, i would go with .com.
