What are all these sites?

Apologies if this is the wrong forum, or I'm breaking a rule by posting a search term.

But I just did a google for the word in the title (there was a good reason, trust me).

After the first page of dictionary entries, there are hundreds of entries for pages that seem to be mainly random words, plus a few links.

Is this some sort of hot, or possibly abandoned, SEO method?

Or have I stumbled across an arcane way the MIBs communicate?

I'm curious. Any ideas?

The pages are randomly genereated with gibberish and likely have a specified keyword density for certain phrases then they are cloaked and redirect to all manner of sites - ringtones, pills, and so forth.
