I need to do research for a new development project. I need to put together a list of the top 50 keywords for my topic. I need to know both the number of searches per day and a ballpark figure on the cpc for all of these terms.

What is the best way to compile a list like this today? Can anyone recommend a service or a combination of websites that would make this compilation as fast as possible?

Thanks in advance.

I love your question jranes, it’s classic. To make it simple I’ll say no. I cannot make it easy for you but I can lead you to a few onsite resources that can help you get started. Research is the key to a successful campaign. If you cut back on anything don’t cut back on the time or effort spent there.

Try a peek at
Research your Competition [webmasterworld.com] – I wrote it but still think it’s good ;)
and another I put together
Tips for industry research [webmasterworld.com]

Now these were written in relation to linking but that doesn’t matter because the general information is sound whether you are linking or not. It should help with the keyword portion of your question.

I wonder if anyone else has input.

Hello Jranes,

The posts Paynt pointed out are fantastic. Give them a read.

For additional research on keywords and click through numbers, check out Overtures "term suggestion tool", whenever I start a new project it's usually one of my first stops for keyword research.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the tips, very usefull information. I have used word tracker and the overture/google tools quite a bit and can aggregate what I get from there.

I guess I am a little pressed for time and have many other responsibilities with my small firm. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a quality firm or service that might provide me with some of this research.

If not then my question is, is there competition to word tracker and overture/google for gathering these stats?

I am mostly concerned because this would be my first time compiling all of this data for a project and although I might be adequate on my first time, I need it to be perfect.

Thanks a lot for the replies and I will for sure following a lot of that great advice paynt. :)
