Iam new to search engine optimization, but I am keen on learning to optimize for Google. I found lots of information in bits and pieces scattered across the net about Google optimization however, i felt that there should be a stategic methodology to optimize for Google. Has anyone come out with a proven methodology in a step by step method for Google optimization? please help me out.

Hi kinaja and welcome to webmasterworld.

Bret wrote this a while back and would make a great great read and help you learn a few ideas about getting good google rankings.

mack,
thank you so much, i just finished reading the entire thing, but can you eloborate on keyword density part?
I was told that 12% is an ideal bet for Google!any proven evidence on this?

I think you are over-simplifying... Keyword density in the title, image tags, first 100 words of your text and links (incoming and outcoming) should be considered, and the % is closer to 3% than what you say.

My approach follows the shotgun theory: make many interlinked pages optimized for each of your keyword phrases. Even if you come up with 200 pages... some of them will hopefully make it to a decent position in Google.

Good luck...
