Paying $2k for a domain name?

im thinking about buying a domain name for $2k....

this is a very rich keyword domain kw1kw2.com which is a really good one for my industry.

i have a site already developed with actually ranks in the top 10 of all major SE's for this similar key phrase...

would it benefit me to buy the domain name?

im guessing if i just re-direct it towards my current site, it will do nothing for my SEO?

thoughts anyone..?

And moving your site to the new domain has much more down than up going for it.

Question is, is it worth the price to avoid any risk of a competitor getting it?

Bear in mind the likely alternative to your purchase is a parked domain with a few 'sponsored links' and maybe some adsense. But it is possible that a rival will jump in. Just.

Correct. The theory with keyword rich domains , is that the natural linking to these domains will always have keyword 1 ,2 . Where as your company name will contain links with company name. This will only help for brand recognition..

You could develop this domain as a new option and get ranking and then montize it or use it for link building to your primary domain.

tony wake up, put a "24" behind a new domain name with the same keyword for 9,95 USD, but dont pay so much money for something what doesnt work either.
