Google link analysis (link to) is incomplete and sometimes erroneous.

Their "contain the term" feature usually has most of the spidered and cached websites that actually link to a given site.

Since Link Analysis is a priority with Google, this ranking algorithm is important

good insight. I have on many occasions seen "0 sites linking" using the Toolbar for sites, and using contain the term, found hundreds.

What is the search syntax for the contain the term feature? I like examples :0

Do a search for [whateverdomain.com...]
Google will return a page that has a listing <or not> and says...
Find web pages that are similar to www.whateverdomain.com

Find web pages that link to www.whateverdomain.com

Find web pages that contain the term "www.whateverdomain.com"

Click on the link under "contain the term" and you will get a count, and SERP.

I find that occasionally the Backwards links in the toolbar sometimes returns a zero, yet this method shows hundreds.

The link to "contains the term" also give a much higher count than the "pages that link to" option.
Some of course,could be pages containing the URL, but not a live link.

I did find it, and it turned out to be the same as typing in +www.yoursite.+com, so I started a thread to list all of the ways to get backward links: [webmasterworld.com...]
