Will using diacritical marks affect how a keyword is ranked? I have a few keywords that are well ranked & I'm concerned about changing the usage of the words to include the diacritical marks - although I'd like to do so.

Normally it shouldn't. Try searching for your keyword both with and without diagritical marks and see if the serps change drastically.
For example search for bòtte or botte and see! Best is to play it safe and use both.
