Google Says 360, Yahoo 10,600? Weird

Google Backlinks shows 360 backlinks while Yahoo shows over 10,000?

Hey everyone. Every day I keep reading more and more and learning quite a bit as I go. Thank you all for your valuable advice and information.

My question is it seems when I check for backwards links using the Google Toolbar Google says I have 360 links but when I check on Yahoo using site explorer, the number is more along the lines of 10,600. Is there a reason for the huge gap in the number of recorded links or am I just not comparing apples to apples here?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm looking for information that needs to be passed on to my boss so it needs to be fairly accurate. Also if someone could suggest a tool to do this, I'd be glad to hear about it.

Thanks again and have a great day!

Mike

Yes Google deliberately broke the link: command some 3 years ago (at least). So I would say - yahoo is probably closer to the reality.

You could try to get a google sitemap they do show links to pages of your site (not sure if there's any limit to it though).

Thank you le_gber and lohia for your replies. I agree that yahoo would be the best source to get your linking data from. I'm not experiencing a problem when I try to determine my deep link ratio. I use the linkdomain and link commands to determine total number of links and links to the home page respectively and then use the information to derive the ratio. The problem is that despite copying and pasting the exact searches into the Yahoo Search field each time, every week I get a different number. Sometimes higher, sometimes lower. One week I have 100 links to pages other than my home page, others I have zero.

Has anyone else experienced this and if you have, what did you do to resolve it?

Thanks in advance,

Michael
