Can anybody say, by getting more inbound links to a subdomain, will the link popularity of the main domain increase...? (Assuming both domains are within the same IP block)

If I am allowed to think like an Engg of Google, it should help in some way as when I a child go famous dad can't avoid popularity. Overall it is under one roof controlled by the domain owner.
