Meta tags, best way to use them.

The right way to use them, & the wrong way.

I have been using meta tags on sever sites the same way, and sometimes I wonder if I could do better. So far, what I have learned is not to spam words more then 6 times in the <key words tag> Use keywords within the title and description. Length of title and disruption, to long or to short. I think I have most of this down OK, but what about the keywords tag? Can you not have enough and the question for me, can to many key words hurt me?

Here is a set of meta tags for one of my sites, maybe someone can let me know of a better way to use them or if there is something missing. Also, you may come across a few miss spelled keywords that have been purposely done, Thanks!

6 times? Whoa, hello - next stop, the ban list. Six times has been considered spam by se's since 1997. It's only a matter of time before they catch you - if they haven't already.

Three is pushing it. The value of meta keywords is almost zero at this time. There are a couple of old deprecated engines that still use them, but the effect is minimal. You can do more with one sentence (the first paragraph on the page), than you can all the keywords and descriptions in the world.

Personally, I think the keywords tag takes longer to download in the browser, than the value of it in the search engines. Use your top 5 kws and forget about it.

The description is a special case. Use your kw's once - possibly twice with some good "click me now" factor. Figuring out what people click on though, is a black art.

Was that the "name" of the company?
if not, how about "Bird Toys at Jungle Heaven." for a title? Get those keywords up front.

Disregard the last post, I meant this. I had an extra "bird toys" in the title. How's this?

That's pretty good, I like that. seems very simple, I have been in the overkill mode. This site has a page for small bird toys, a page for medium, one for large, one for parts and so on. So how would you set up tags for the large bird toys page, Like this?

<title>Lange bird toys BUY ONLINE at Jungle Heaven !</title>

<META NAME="description" CONTENT="Buy large bird toys DIRECT from the manufacturer. Safe securing ordering, FAST shipping and our LOW PRICE guarantee make Jungle Heaven your #1 for bird toys">

<META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="large bird toys">

Buy large bird toys DIRECT from the manufacturer. Safe securing ordering, FAST shipping ...

What's with the words in all caps? Ugh.

It catches their eye Laisha. However, I believe it's risky. They can filter for that stuff pretty easy.

hehe, me too! It's almost a subliminal thing, just read the caps words, would you click?

NEVER [see :)] cap the keywords.

Me too, NFFC.

><META NAME="description" CONTENT="we manufacture and sell bird toys and parts for parrots">

Continue the game using a play on words: parts for parrots=parrot parts.

"We offer you the finest quality parrot parts including feet, feathers and beaks in two convenient sizes. FANTASTIC PRICES by ordering parts for parrots direct from the manufacturer!"

Just kidding of course, it's kind of fun to vary the word sequences and take them out of context.

Marcia - I had the very same thought. I'll take the drumstick. ;)

I agree with Laisha about the caps... would make me not want to click.

Sure jkruit, join the fun.

>With cuffs, fittings and jackets, and custom made assemblies
Sounds like a men's haberdashery.

>Convoluted tubing
Sounds like an outpatient procedure in a gynecologist's office.

Better wait 'til Google gets their contextual relevancy straighened out jkruit, you'll confuse them even more than they already are with Page Rank :)

Marcia, I have a double yellow head amazon parrot named Pickles. He read your post and is now having nightmares. All this, just when he got over the cat incident.

Convoluted? No wonder you're #1; it must be hard for others to figure out a good description...

>nightmares

My brother had an African Grey years ago that used to shriek "Why don't you just shut up and go to work!" You'd swear it was his wife's voice.

>><title>Jungle Heaven bird toys. a bird toy company.</title>

<title>Bird Toys - retail and wholesale toys for birds from Jungle Heaven.</title>

You might want to change the text in two of the links to read Large Bird Toys. Not a bad idea to have your main keyword phrase in link text someplace.

Hay Marcia, This is what I have now:

<A HREF="large.html" ><b>Large Toys</b></A>

Do you mean something like this?---->

<A HREF="largebirdtoys.html" ><b>Large Toys</b></A>

African Grays are great talkers, maybe 100 to 300 word vocabulary

>African Grays are great talkers
I sneak into the back room of a local pet shop and teach one to talk a bit. Keets are too, trained right. hehe... talking hook-bills love one-syllable words ending in a hard "k" or "t" sound. Hear it once or twice, and they've got it ;)

<A HREF="largebirdtoys.html" ><b>Large Toys</b></A>

<A HREF="largebirdtoys.html" ><b>Large Bird Toys</b></A>

After hanging around Inktomi for a while it turns into this:

<A HREF="large-bird-toys.html" title="toys for large birds"><b>Large Bird Toys</b></A>
