Hi,

This morning I’ve had like a spike of 27k blank user agents where my usual traffic is the same customers for a month !

You can imagine that everything went South…. I’ve reverted to a state before this spike and seems good for now!

Do you think blocking this sort of agents can be good ? Any idea what can it be ?

Thanks !

No user agent certainly suggests nogoodnick is involved!

Then again, instead of dealing with frauds and liars it is even easier to deal with Mr. Noname!

Gotta pick and chose your battles and go from there.

Post a few example IP's where these hits are coming from.

If a legitimate entity chooses not to send a User-Agent, they deserve whatever they get. (Facebook actually did it--random, not consistent--for a couple of years, 2017-2019, but eventually came to their senses. It was annoying as all getout, but yup, I poked holes.) Blocking blank UAs is trivial, so why not.

Like these IPs : 69.180.230.172 / 174.251.208.86 / 185.169.0.248
I have one from Google that is also on the list 66.249.65.22

I’ve sent the list to a friend that is better than me for these sorts of issues. So he come up with a top of « offenders »

Sometimes users work from home, your list includes Verizon wireless. This is why it is easier to block the blank UA rather than individual IPs. Tomorrow the user of that IP could be a legitimate user. There are dozens of threads here with instructions if you can edit your .htaccess file.

As lucy24 said -

Love it when "unintended" becomes "splendid"!
