I seem to be getting conflicting reports as to if the engines can read javascript? Just wondering if the search engine spiders (specifically Googlebot) can read javascript? Anyone have any examples?

Also wondering if the crawlers can read or pick up URLS or links that are found in comment tags?

They can all read javascript. The real question is whether they can execute it and interpret the results. Googlebot can and does.

Not all crawlers, some crawlers actually interpret the entire page, but they're on the bleeding edge, only a few.
