Is it fair to say that the only real way to get quick rankings and fast results is to dump a considerable amount of money into SEM i.e.(adwords, yahoo submit, pay-per-click)?
No I don't think so.
With good site planning and tactics, it's still possible to start seeing money roll in in short time frames, though I do believe that I'm starting to see hints of time lagging over at Yahoo (far less extreme that what G has been doing, if Y is doing it at all).
I do think that it is in the SE's interests to make the notion of easy, short term Web profits appear to be less attainable than was the case a few years ago.
There was a time in recent memory when loads of senior members regularly boasted on the forums about how quickly they got their sites ranked and into the money. Don't see many of those posts anymore. ;-)
Many of the search engines are coming to a closing on how difficult it is to get ranked in good time. Dont think that you have to sepnd money to get some short term results. Try taking an organic approach at getting that traffic to your site. If your product or information on your site will be exceedingly good than you will have enough site confidence to invite some potential heavy traffic senders. Make money before you send money, get links before you make links,
- It took me like 3 years to get listed on Dmoz.
- I got listed on Yahoo LONG before that, but I paid.
Guess who sends more hits?
Don't get me wrong, the dmoz link is not worthless, all the major engines use dmoz to build their db's, but then they also use Yahoo AND a link at Yahoo usually weighs more than a link at Dmoz.
So at least to me, money talks.
