Hey guys:)

When placeing outbound links for higher pr,(as in brett's article for good ranking in G and use of outbound links) should you let the visitor go directly to the website and leave yours or should you keep them on your site with:

target=_blank

and create the new window to keep them their?

>What do you guys do?

Opinions/advice?

Thanks for your help fellas:)

Hi

I may be wrong but for SEO I dont think the target matters when linking. (Anyone, correct me if I am wrong, I often am).

I think the main problem people have with target '_blank' is usability.

Once a user clicks a target "_blank" link, opens a new window and after they are finished tries to click back to your site through the back button, they hit a "history wall". This is because the history of the window does not go back to your site as it starts with the site in the "_blank" link.

Same here, bubblebug. ;-)

Your answer works for me though.

BTW, bubblebug, I have no idea what that nick means, but I like it! ;-)

I find it extremely irritating if a site opens new windows in my browser without my permission. If they could ask permission the answer would be NO anyway ;-)

So, on my site, I just tell the visitors that they will leave my site if they click an external link. That gives them the opportunity to come back to my site via the backspace key anytime.

Enjoy!
