Domains

Are premium domains as competitive as a .co.uk or .com

Hi there, new to the forum.

So I have created an interior design website and am working through the best domain to reflect what I do but also compete on level terms with traditional suffixes. So there is not much information but for example should I look at mynamedesign.co.uk or should I go myname.design

I have checked and .design is a gtld it is also quite expensive but a sensible expense when building a brand.

Thanks for your time.

@Sparky24 ... Welcome to Webmasterworld!

When discussing domain names, your best method is not NEVER discuss "new" domain names in public. Somebody might register is before you do!

The boutique gtld's CAN be beneficial, but there is no doubt that of all gtld .com is the the apex of the food chain. Don't ignore that during your domain search.

Thank you for your reply, I would never reveal a domain I was looking to purchase but that is sound advice and thank you for that. Its a shame that a .design would have less status than a .co.uk (I am UK based) as the business is an interior design business.

thank you

Hi Sparky24 and welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com]

People default to thinking of websites as .com or .co.uk depending on where they live. If someday the boutique gtlds really get used, it might make sense to pay the extra cost. To start though it is best to conform to the way people think. They might see your logo or brand name and remember it but typing it in or even using a search to find your site, they would default to the more 'recognizable' form.

Thank you for confirmation, will head over to the .co.uk section for the domain.

Hey, welcome to the forum! Choosing a domain is crucial. .design can be unique and memorable for your interior design site, but it might cost a bit more. Consider your branding, target audience, and long-term goals. If it aligns with your brand image and budget, go for it! Good luck!
