Some niches might not rank no matter what you do. Not saying this is one, but it might fall into that category of "undesired".
As for link building, use the search box at the top of this page and find literally thousands of WW posts discussing that topic.
Only real advice is avoid BUYING links ... g always figures that out and the resulting penalty is nearly impossible to recover from.

What kind of gambling site are you running? Because, there are already gambling sites out there that are doing good business. Maybe you could check how they are doing it and then try to emulate/one up them?
