Search engine visibility for personal blogs?

Commercial websites take up all the search results

Have noticed of late that search results, for example on travel, (or perhaps any other subject), yield links to commercial websites for many many pages, burying personal blogs in between somewhere.

The same search keyword could show many links from the same site for example, Tripadvisor, or Tripsavvy or Ixigo and so on, not enabling discovery of personal blogs and experiences.

Anyone noticed this? Personal blogs can be extremely useful for finding trusted information, plus as a blogger myself, I wonder what can be done to increase visibility of my own blogs given that I don’t have the marketing budgets of these commercial websites.

Get backlinks, thousands of them. Sounds impossible, but this is something you do daily and eventually they raise your site up in the search results *if* you have relevant content.

Social Media is a fertile bed for spreading the word about your personal blog. But again, content is king.

I like to study information in personal blogs. I trust such information more. Use quality content. You find it difficult to bypass sites with high rates. They may be much older than you. Select low-frequency keywords. You have more chances to go to the top.
