Hey all,

I was wandering if there was an effective means of tracking your SEO efforts. What we are looking for is some software which will take a 'snap shot' of our site in the SEO world, recording important information such as PR, links (external and internal), search engine rankings etc. We would also like to track our competitors so we can make comparisons on a month to month basis.

I have been looking into [seomoz.org ] and their free API for doing this. However if there is anything out there which will give us month to month reporting then there would be no need to code something up ourselves.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Thanks

How about the "SEO PowerSuite"?
It's not free (there is a limited free version), but does give detailed info about your rankings for keywords, backlinks, PR etc.

Might be what you're looking for.

ooh, the automated google requests will get you temporarily banned from google cache etc. every once in a while. (just for searches)

I found a nice solution. It is a Traffic Sources report in Google Analytics. I choose "Search Engines" and look at the graph to see if numbers are going up or down.

I don't trust such programs.

I do everything manually.

Yes, the best effective means of tracking your efforts is a good analytics package.

Knowing what keywords rank is pretty meaningless unless you're selling your services to a brain dead customer that sees those pretty positions and thinks it's a good thing being even though it's not making him money.

Knowing what keywords are actually driving traffic to the site is priceless and you can tell where you aren't ranking by what's not driving traffic in the first place.

Take it from someone with tons of top 10 spots, they may look good, but they don't all make money nor are they worth the time to get there if they don't produce.
