I have read a number of references to this trend but can't remember which threads they were in.

A quick look at results from a local and general search on Bing, Ask, Yahoo and Google,

Above the fold

ASK - 3
Yahoo - 0
Bing - 1

Since it has become impossible to buy a 'square' shaped monitor, the fold is much higher than it used to be. This is one of my pet peeves... forcing me to rethink everything, search results, page layout, ad placement, etc.

not sure i agree as monitors are also much bigger than they were say 5 years ago (on average) the height in pixels still exceeds what it was before despite the different shape
