Hi there,

Does anyone know anything about ReachLocal or has had experience with them?

We are looking into using them but have read negative comments across the internet about their system having an effect on your natural rankings?

Thanks

Spuddy

What specifically are you looking to do with them?

They have a service whereby they are able to establish which keywords in your Google account generate phone calls, and then optimise these keywords to increase conversions.

They do this via a reverse proxy, which allows them to dynamically replace the telephone numbers on your landing page, and then track each phone call back to individual keywords?

I have read some of their customer reviews stating as they mirror your site through the reverse proxy it can lead to a drop in rankings?

Hi Spuddy,

ReachLocal will not effect your search engine rankings. I ran into a situation (which I blogged about) where a random SEO/SEM 'expert' told a client a recent drop in Search Rankings was an effect of ReachLocal - when it wasn't.

Let me know if you have any questions but you shouldn't be worried about using ReachLocal because of that concern. It's not valid.

I talk about the technology in detail and why you shouldn't be concerned.

Cheers!
