On one site, I've have tried everything I can think of to rank well in the serps, however it doesn't rank well at all. Site is over 3 yrs old with little or no backlinks. All original content, keyword optimized and CSS layout that validates, etc.. I've also written about 10 articles with the keyword in the backlink and have not published them on my site. Is there something I'm missing? Is there anything else I need to be doing? Any ideas appreciated.

It sounds as though you need links more than anything. Even if you're doing lots of other things right, the search engines will not take your site very seriously until other sites start linking to it.

Spend some time in the link development forum to get ideas, then promote, promote, promote.

Agree fully with buckworks, that's sure what it sounds like.

This is a really old mouldy oldy and doesn't apply just to Google, but though it's just a partial list of over 100 factors, it still isn't a bad overview of some of the kinds of things the search engines are likely to be looking for

There are also a few excellent posts by pageoneresults on how to build the perfect web page, if someone wants to dig them out from this forum's library to link to and share.

The first thing I might check would be site architecture. Are you certain that a few or all of your pages are in google's index?

If the site is three years old and has atracted no links, you need to think about content. Time to build more, and better.

Look at your rivals, and think about how the site could be built bigger and better. there nneds to be something at the end of all that SEO, and organic links are a good measure of the impression your site is making.

If you have original articles, why give them away, when you clearly need them yourself?

On one site, I've have tried everything I can think of to rank well in the serps, however it doesn't rank well at all.

What keywords you were trying to rank?
-Know what keywords you want to rank.
-Monitor your SERPs on the various keywords.
-Focus your attention to the keywords that ranks well (but it doesn’t mean that you’ll disregard those keywords that doesn’t rank, only that you give yourself more interesting stuff to do.)
-Start building links…building links…and more get more links.

Enjoy building your links. SEO is fun! :-)
