I am betting that webmasterworld is an abundant source of the best tricks of the SEO trade and the worst mistakes that backfire.

So, I invite contributors to this thread to post a reference, including a short comment about a thread that contains tips - things to do or things to avoid.

Preferably, note the title of the thread and/or a [ url = ] to it so that we all can read it too.

Myself, I'm just going to sit back and enjoy reading all this good information.

What is the first thing I do when I visit a site and suddenly hear loud noises coming out of the speakers? Leave.

I just visited <a site> and was reminded of that. Some of the text was superimposed on other text with a larger font, and most of the screen was taken up by misaligned placemarkers for images that continued loading for quite a while. Suddenly, a noise startled me (music, I guess) and I got out of there in a big hurry.

However, the site was No. 1 in the SERPs and page rank was 3, so what do I know. Keyword was repeated many, many times.
