I'm really baffled where an earth
are the results as shown in MSN search from?

Does anyone know for definite?

Some of the links are from Inkotomi, and the pay
ones you can guess, but all the others I have
no idea, they are clearly not from google.

Help!

MSN gets their feed from Inktomi. If you go ahead
and do a PFI, the slurp@Inktomi will eventually
come and index your site.

They claim to roll the index about every two weeks
but that hasn't been the case with my site.

If your desired target phrase is loaded with Looksmart listings, no one will find your Inktomi listing.

Google never has fed results to MSN. MSN has publicly said they are out to topple Google's SE reign.

The easiest way to get into MSN is to bid on Overture in the top 3 spots. That can get expensive though!

I have never paid to get into Inktomi yet it spiders my site and all the pages on a regular basis. I have heard, once you pay, it only spiders the pages you paid for.

This is the bizarre thing, I have many
sites in inkomoti account paid for, all with green
ticks, but all with ZERO clicks! (for months now)

Inkotomi also don't respond to my e-mails, do they have a phone number? Surely, it just can't be inkotomi?

Other than that, they just use ZEAL?
But zeal says they are non-commercial, so that doesn't
make sense!

How can you tell where the lists in MSN are coming
from, only the inkotomi ones are easy to spot.

Help!

I'm making an assumption that, you paid another company for inclusion through ink? If so, thats who you have to email or phone...I had a problem with one of my pages that i'd paid for (the page had the word pornstar on it...a clothing brand) which wasn't being included, i got onto my inktomi intermediary...they resolved the issue with ink...immediately.

I think positiontech are the main ink dealers

Here is an updated table showing who is feeding who...

pageoneresults, That table is not strictly accurate for MSN. It doesn't mention in the "Tweaked By" column MSN "FEATURED SITES" which are based upon MSN editor selections and some MSN direct/internal advertising.

For very common keywords/phrases MSN "FEATURED SITES" are pretty prevalent.

MSN sources (some may not apply depending upon term used):

1. "FEATURED SITES": MSN internal advertising, editor's selections. Price unknown, at least by me;)

2. "SPONSORED SITES": Top 3 results from Overture bidding

3. "WEB DIRECTORY SITES": Results from Looksmart at 15 cents per click.

4. "WEB PAGES": Inktomi results, some PFI, some free, doesn't make a difference if you PFI or not IMHO.

My research shows that less than 10% of all convertible traffic comes from 1 to 3.....90% of all traffic comes from 4. It maybe the bottom of the ranking pile, but it is where the gold exists. :)
