Ranking reports

What do you include in yours?

I'm guessing most of us do some kind of monthly ranking report for clients, but I just wondered what others included in the report.

Here's what we do :

Search engines covered - Google, MSN, Yahoo (search), Lycos, AltaVista, AOL

(no longer list Hotbot, who gets any traffic from them anymore?)

Directories - Yahoo

(no other directories included since they're not relevant for keyword searches)

Keyword Phrases - between 5 and 10 per optimised page (depends on the site)

The table lists the search phrase, search engine/directory, position, and page found (URL)

How does that compare to what's in your ranking reports?

We've stopped giving ranking reports to clients. They are pretty worthless. Instead, we give them the list of keywords/phrases they have actually been found for and the SEs they were found on which can be got from log files. Far more effective.

Yes I agree that's more useful, but what if they're paying you for visibility, not for click-thrus?

I think the initial ranking report should show customer whether site has been included in DMOZ, and if it has been included, then should show the detailed category and link page!

That's all they want to know and care about.

The "Report" also depends on what their paying you for. We don't give reports to all of our clients, just the ones that pay us to help "MARKET" their site. The others that want you to design and host, are very different (although some of them think that your design will also give them #1 positions).
