Which Search engines use META tags?

I have heard time and time again that search engines are giving less and less relevance to META tags.

Does any one know if there is an accurate list of search engines which are still using them and who aren’t?

I did a search on webmaster world but didn't come up with what I need.

Your help would be appreciated

Hello Giddion

I think you will find that a list of engines that does or does not use meta tags will be difficult to come by. Things change fast in this game.

In my opinion the only people who know for certain whether SE's use metas is going to be the SE's themselves. They may use a small part or all of them. Simply put we can only speculate, they may add some weight to them in addition to all the other things they use.

True they were once aubused and very easy to manipulate and now are not as important as they once were. It could well be worth including targeted metas for some of the smaller engines that still use them.

Cheers

Thanks ukgimp

At the minute I’m having a little trouble trying to move forward with my SEO tactics.

SEO has changed and I need some evidence to prove it.

Thanks for your help though

Meta Tags are still valid as per page identification, but they really don't play a major role in ranking (IMO).

You can in almost every search enigne find (e.g. - meta description) being used - usually when there is limited other page information available... text, titles, alt's and other content identifying features.

Welcome to Webmasterworld, Giddion!

You might want to read an article on the Death of a Meta Tag [searchenginewatch.com] posted elsewhere.
