New to RSS, where to start

Hi all,

I am reading everywhere RSS is important but unfortunetly kept so busy for last 3 months and somehow missed this new happening, please help me to understand it better.

Can someone give me a small overview and some links to start my day.

Yes, me too please! I would love to be able to integrate RSS newsfeeds into one or more of my sites. Problem is, I have no idea where to start or how to go about doing it, programatically. Most of the RSS information I've seen relate to how to get a RSS reader on your desktop. I need to learn how to integrate selective RSS newsfeeds directly into the pages of some of my sites.

If you want to integrate RSS feeds into your website and have PHP available, you could try the magpierss class (just do a google search).

Basically you pass the feed url to this class and it returns an array containig the parsed feed information in a ready-to-use format. You can use this array to display the RSS content in any way you want.

sounding almost greek to me , can someone help me out, I had a policy that I will ask google before I ask here but for this time, please guide me how to go about.

RSS is a pretty big topic to describe in a post. What aspect of it are you having difficulty with?

Basically, RSS is an easy way to syndicate news or content from your site. This is a great way for people to keep up with what's new on your site. If you provide an RSS feed then people with aggregators can check that file for updates. Some people use it for newsletters because unlike e-mail, we don't have RSS spam. It's a PULL medium and a lot of people like that nowadays.

The best thing that helped me understand RSS was to start using it as a user.

RSS is pretty cool, kinda like getting an email alert when any pages at your favorite sites are added or edited.

Opera 7.5 has a built in reader for rss feeds. If you don't have Opera, Yahoo's got a rss mod that you can use on your My Yahoo account. It also has the benefit of being pretty dummy proof as it took me a couple hours of messing around to get the Opera settings right. MyYahoo was grabbing feeds within a couple minutes.
