I first started to use the "word" werty when I was 5 years old, while playing a game called Hunt the Wumpas in school. It required you to enter a name, and I was unable to type and found this name on the keyboard.
I used it again later in Oregon Trail in fifth grade. Years later when I went online I needed a username and a password...guess what I used?
One company I worked for many years ago would meet in IRC and I was of course Werty on the chat, and they started to call me werty in real life as well. So it kind of stuck.
I guess I have been known as werty for close to 10 years now. I have once been contacted by a werty who thought he found his long lost brother (based on name only), and I probably crushed him, when I told him it was just a nickname.
I also remember years back seeing werty as a baby name on one of the baby name site...but for a baby girl!
So to answer the question, I really have no idea what a werty is other then a nickname.
