Adding RSS to my Blog

Can't I just add an XML file...

I have a blog on blogger.com. I want to turn each post into an RSS item...

Couldn't I just create the XML file, add the XML code for each post (each item), and associate the URL of the feed with a reader?

Or is that too simple of an understanding?

You already have an Atom feed. If you really need rss as well then the easiest option is probably to use a service like Feedburner

I am having problems with that route though, no blog items are appearing in my reader...

I think it may be because the atom.xml file isn't valid. I believe I've supplied the correct information to both feedreader and blogger.

I created a simple test feed (mentioned in the first post) and it worked exactly as expected.

I suppose the main difference here is how to insert XML code into the blogger template since these posts are obviously being generated dynamically.

But wouldn't the xml code just get escaped and wrapped in the Atom feed format? You could create a separate xml file in rss format and host it elsewhere - but that would be more work than it should be.

Does your feed reader accept Atom feeds? And can you open up the atom.xml file in Internet Explorer? That would at least prove that it's valid xml.

Yes, I can enter it into a browser; it appears to be valid. But it only grabs the site title and site description, no posts, post titles, etc., the most important items.

I'm using FeedReader and Google Reader, only the site description appears and site title appears.

I'm not sure if I have to edit the atom.xml file itself or the Blogger template code to extract the posts/titles in addition to the site title/description.

This make any sense? Thanks!
