RSS Feed: Free for users, but not for websites

Possible to make RSS feed free for feedreaders, but not websites?

Hello cognoscenti,

I work for a health education question-and-answer service run by my university. We currently offer an e-mail newsletter where users can get the newest headlines each week. What we'd like to do is...

1. Offer a no-charge RSS feed to anyone who'd like to subscribe
- AND -
2. Offer a way for other universities, etc. to syndicate our content (i.e. get the same RSS feed appearing in a little box on their websites), for which they pay $1/month

The charge is very, very small, and is primarily so that we can monitor who is using our content. Several, several hours of research/work goes into every Q&A, so we're a bit protective of the material. As of yet, I haven't found a way to do this. It seems that:
- Once an RSS feed is out there... it's out there and anyone can write a little PHP to get it on their site
- There's no way to track if one website is pinging your RSS feed vs. a feedreader doing it

Is there another solution I haven't thought of? Or, should we consider using RSS and something else?

You can have RSS feed that require login, so you can protect your content that way.
