how long for google search engine to work?

Iv submitted my site to google. So how long is it till i will see it in the search results? I tried searching and it wont come up. Is there something else i should do? Thanks John

Get some inbound links to the site. Keep an eye on your logs so you know when Googlebot hits.

you will need to download your website log files this you can get from your hosts

Build content, exchange some links, submit it to directories and wait. Don't re-submit it until some months. PS: if your site is in a free web-hosting server it will probably not be indexed.

Start a blog at blogspot if you havent already and link to your page. Google owns blogspot and seems to give it preferentual treatment, your blog will get into the database almost instantly and through it google will get to know about your site.
