I have a site that was doing fine until we set up a shopping cart. All products are on the webpage and also in the shopping cart and I suspect that Google is seeing this as duplicate content even though there are no supplemental results after the shopping cart listings. Google isn't sending traffic anymore except for business name and very obscure words on some pages but ravenous with the images.

I set up a disallow thusly:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /cgi-bin/
Disallow: /shoppingcart/ <-this is not the real name

However after reading up on disallowing a shoppig cart or dynamic urls I have run into conflicing info.

Apparently I should set up a robots text in the shopping cart directory itself?

I want to clarify this first before proceeding.

PS. I can't set up a meta no index in the shopping cart--that I'm aware of.

Any suggestions?

apparently NOT!

only 1 robots.txt is required and it should be placed in the document root of the website.

p.s. robots.txt isn't of course required for a site to function!
